Album: Glory
Glory found Spears exploring with a lot of different genres, moods, and tempos. Unlike Femme Fatale whose tracklist read like a club DJ’s setlist, Glory has fewer hard-hitting dance tracks. But “Love Me Down” is a banger. Britney emulates Gwen Stefani doing a sassy speak-sing throughout the song’s verses backed by a wobbling bass and trap beats. Much like in 2008’s ”Womanizer,” the crux of the chorus is variations on repeating the title phrase, which may wear a bit on listeners looking for a bit of variety. But for those who commit to the ride, it’s quite a trip. In earlier eras, this would have been a surefire single with a dance-heavy video to accompany it. But for Glory Spears chose to venture down new, diverse paths.
