Album: Circus

If Spears were to have sought to make Circus into Blackout 2.0, “Kill the Lights” could have been prominently been featured on that album, and even served as the lead single with Danja’s drama-building introduction to the “Pop Princess, now Queen of Pop.” It’s a sleek and hypnotic electro-disco track that serves as something of a score-settling moment between Spears and the paparazzi. Her vocals are defiant and especially strong during the bridge before her sassy delivery at the chorus. Though never officially released as a single, it did get something of a music video treatment with a fan contest culminating in a shortened animated sequence that was released to iTunes and YouTube (though not nearly at the caliber of the “Break the Ice” animated video). Regardless of its non-single status, the strength of the track carried it to the Billboard Bubbling Under charts based on digital downloads alone.
